Korean[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Middle Chinese (MC dɑŋX, tʰɑŋH). Recorded as Middle Korean 타ᇰ〯 (thǎng) (Yale: thǎng) in Hunmong Jahoe (訓蒙字會 / 훈몽자회), 1527.

Pronunciation[edit]

  • (SK Standard/Seoul) IPA(key): [tʰa̠(ː)ŋ]
  • Phonetic hangul: [(ː)]
    • Though still prescriptive in Standard Korean, most speakers in both Koreas no longer distinguish vowel length.
